The best-in-class integration with zoom® and the ease of producing a live show with the mimoLive® Remote Control Surface intrigued attendees from community media channels from all over the U.S. at the recent ACM National Conference in San Jose.
The demo workflow simulated a studio setup with mimoLive and 4 NDI cameras, integrating citizen journalists using their own smartphones to report from around the city via zoom®. By using the mimoLive® NDI-in-a-box system to save setup time, be fully autonomous, and make the best use of limited space while still having an extraordinarily powerful production system, the conference audience got a glimpse of the future of mobile production.
No Pinning Required
Audience accessibility is a big topic for community media. What is a requirement for city council meetings also makes a lot of sense for other productions. Whether you want to bring in subject matter experts for a panel discussion, get additional perspectives from citizen journalists for local news, or get citizen feedback for city council meetings, mimoLive’s tight integration with zoom makes it a breeze.
No more laptop farms, caller pinning, and screen grabbing. mimoLive uses the zoom Meeting SDK to get high-quality, isolated video and audio from specific zoom callers.
This allows you to select a zoom caller from a pop-up list and have only their video and audio in the production. If there are other people on the same zoom call, they cannot affect what you capture unless you create a separate source for them. You can have up to 8 callers in Full HD and more if you can live with lower resolution.
Hybrid Production with mimoLive zoom® Integration
The production team can use the same zoom call to talk to participants up to the moment they are brought into the show, and during the show if they need information about what’s going on.
Become a Live Producer in Minutes
The real magic of mimoLive® is the remote control surface that turns an iPad into a smart production controller. With a single button press, you can bring up the right camera, add a lower third, and mute the speaker’s microphone. Or set up an interview with a picture-in-picture of the host next to a zoomed-in view of the expert.
This reduces the complexity of live video production to the push of a few buttons—no broadcast engineering degree required. This means you can easily train your volunteer staff to produce a live show.
Meet The mimoLive® NDI-In-A-Box™ System
If you haven’t heard of NDI®, it’s time you did. Moving video and audio from SDI and HDMI to the same digital network technology that your computers use to communicate with each other and the world is like moving from donkey carts to flying saucers.
From simplified cabling to making video sources available to all devices on the network to easily using the same camera on two (or more) computers, NDI is a whole new world for live production.
For our demo at the ACM Conference, we brought the mimoLive® NDI-In-A-Box system because it offered the following advantages:
• It has a self-contained network for our cameras, making it easy to set up without interfering with the venue’s IT network. It can be connected to the Internet via a wifi connection, a wired Ethernet connection, or an LTE/5G wireless router.
• Setup for the 4-camera production took less than 30 minutes. We only had to run one Ethernet cable from the NDI-In-A-Box system to each camera for power, video, audio, and PTZ control.
• We had our own Wi-Fi network to connect the remote control surface on the iPad.
Summary
The integration of Zoom® and mimoLive® provides an advanced and accessible solution for live video production, eliminating the need for complex setups and allowing for seamless inclusion of remote participants. The mimoLive® NDI-in-a-box system demonstrated at the ACM National Conference showcased the efficiency and power of this technology, significantly reducing setup time and making mobile live production more manageable. This innovation is set to revolutionize the way community media and other live productions are conducted, offering a glimpse into the future of mobile production.
